Maplebear Rochester launched our ‘Start Small, Dream Big (SSDB)’ Project in April 2021! The theme of our project is ‘CommUNITY Starts with Me’. Unity in community means people coming together as one to create a sense of togetherness in a group. Community is important because it is the foundation for all the people that live in it. The COVID-19 pandemic is a call to action for everyone to work together. By doing so, we can emerge from this stronger.
The launching ceremony was a success! The kids understood the objectives of the project, which is to promote character building by instilling the spirit of giving and values, such as care for others, humility, kindness and compassion. We hope to educate and create awareness in our children to enrich the learning opportunities through service to others.
Everyone was so excited to participate in this year’s SSDB project. Children dressed up as community helpers. They learnt that community helpers and frontline workers are important because they make our lives better, keep us and the community safe, as well as help our community to function better. The children also take these workers into their heart, think about how to grow stronger and more caring by following their lead. They also did the pledge card, made a keychain and classroom hanging mobile using the SSDB resources.
