This is the first time that PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Tampines East Blk 261 (KN) participated in the Start Small Dream Big Project.
The whole centre - 143 children in all were involved!
The children brainstormed on how we could contribute to the community and we decided to start from ‘home’ - Tampines.
The children were given collection envelopes and their bucket hats and all were geared to go!
In that one month in July, the children helped their parents, grandparents and even their neighbours with chores around the house. They collected money from doing these chores.
Parents were pleased with this initiative and felt that the children were more aware of what was happening at home. At the same time, they also learned about the concept of money and were more aware of what charity was about.
Parents posted photos of their children doing chores at home. These are but a few of those which were posted.
By end July, the children collected a total of $3019.30!
With the money they collected, they bought provisions such as biscuits, canned food and cereal for the residents in the rental flats near our school.
They also wrote in to various supermarkets to get a good price for the items.
With $3019.30, they managed to get quite a bit of provisions for each of the families in the 150 households.
On 4 August, some children distributed our pre-visit leaflets to let residents know that we will be coming.
Another group of children helped to pack the provisions into bags…
All the children wrote little notes to the residents and attached them to the bags.
On Saturday 12 August, another group of representatives went to distribute the goodie bags to the residents. They were accompanied by the teachers, their parents and even the MP of Tampines GRC!
For residents who were not in, the children left a note to ask them to collect from the Centre or call the Centre so that we can deliver it to them. We were aiming to reach out to all 150 of them!
One resident who was expecting us even prepared a thank-you card for the children.
It all shows that “No one can do everything but everyone can do something!”
Let US keep this going!
