In May 2018, Cherie Hearts@ Charlton launched Start Small Dream Big Project cum Young Entrepreneurs and Kindness Day in collaboration with Moonlight Home for the Aged and Handicapped, TOUCH Community Services, and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Our Cherians decorated their pledge cards with SSDB mascot stickers and wrote their pledge on their aspiration to show care and compassion for the community.
Prior to Entrepreneurs Day carnival, Cherians were guided by their teachers in planning the fund-raising activities. They prepared snacks, drinks and unique items to sell at the various hands on activity booths. Our Cherians learned about financial literacy as they discussed and practised simple money management skills such as budgeting, spending, saving and sharing.
Parents and their family members supported the good cause by generously donating and purchasing goods from our young entrepreneurs. It was a gratifying experience for our Cherians as they develop team playing and strategic planning skills in making this meaningful event a successful one. A total of $3,090 proceeds from the carnival were donated to Moonlight Home for the Aged and Handicapped, TOUCH Community Services, and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) equally.
In conjunction with Kindness Event, our K2 Cherians visited TOUCH Senior Activity Centre that we organised termly to engage the seniors by playing games and exercising with them. They learned to show empathy towards the elderly and people with disabilities.
Our K1 Cherians went to Moonlight Home for the Aged and Handicapped to present a cheque and food contributions by parents and the centre. They had a great time forming connections with the elderlies as they interacted warmly, gave Kindness bag that they made and performed a dance.
One is never too young to help the less fortunate. We will continue to encourage our Cherians to be kind when they are young and start to do good deeds however young they are, however small their deeds.
