Our Pioneer Generation have a great part to play in the modern, first-world nation that Singapore is today. As part of our Service Learning on the core value - Caring, our K1 & K2 children learnt to care for the elderly - otherwise fondly regarded by the children as “Ah gong” & “Ah ma”.
We visited the AWWA Community Senior Home to spend time with the elderly on 23 & 26 May 2017.
The lovely K2 children worked with the elderly on their “seedling cups” for the planting of green bean seeds. We hope that the added greenery will brighten the elderly’s moods and give them something little to work on every day.
Our bubbly K1 children used their favourite English and Mandarin songs, rhymes and poems to entertain the elderly. Indeed, they brought much joy and laughter to the elderly that morning. Their faces were lit with glee as they joined the children in the hand movements during sing-along.
They even had a round of games with the elderly. What a delight to see the young and old engaged in a collaborative activity together - there is no generation gap when it comes to fun!
Together with a few of our Parent Volunteers, we aim to foster a culture of care and kindness in our next generation through an initiative like this! We hope we have made a difference in the lives of the elderly that morning, albeit a short session. Little begins the process! We believe the elderly’s hearts were touched by the innocent kindness and love shown by the children.
Cheers to our Pioneer Generation!
