On the first week of school after the circuit breaker, children from Nursery, K1 and K2 classes celebrated Hari Raya with the elderlies from the NTUC Health Nursing Home. It was our first ever virtual celebration held together with the elderlies via zoom. While the K1 and K2 children were back at school, the Nursery children celebrated with their parents at their own homes.
Before the celebration, children donned their Malay traditional costumes and prepared a Malay cultural dance performance for the elderlies. They made crafts of a moon crescent and a star as decorations for the festive. Children were able to learn more, show respect and appreciate the Malay culture as they prepared for the celebration.
Furthermore, children recalled the last time they saw the elderlies during the christmas celebration held at the nursing home last December. They learnt that the elderlies were not allowed any visitors to the nursing home during the circuit breaker period. Children showed empathy as they expressed their wishes to draw and write well wishes cards to cheer them up.
During the zoom celebration, children were able to showcase their cards and expressed their well wishes to the elderlies. The pre-recorded Malay cultural dance performance was also shown during the celebration. It was heartwarming to see the elderlies and children moving and singing along to the finale song Rasa Sayang.
