As the Kindergarten Two children learnt about people who made a difference in term 2, they reflected about people who are less fortunate in our community. In conjunction with our Builder’s Project, the children wondered how they could make a difference and posed a question, “How can we help the elderly around us?”
Over the course of four weeks, the children engaged in various activities to learn more about the elderly. They interviewed their grandparents to find out their likes and interests, performed a kind deed for an elderly in their free time, learnt hokkien phrases to initiate conversations with elderly and explored how we should treat the elderly through role play and group discussions. They also conducted a donation drive to pack goodies bags for elders at a senior activity centre.
The little ones visited the elders at the senior activity centre -NTUC Silver Circle @ Kampung Admiralty on the 20 and 26 of June. They cheered the elderly with a song and dance performance and engaged in art and craft with their new elderly friends. Children and elders bonded further over a hearty meal by having lunch together. Before they left, children presented the goodie bags to each elders and were delighted by their cherry smiles!
Indeed, the little ones have experienced first hand the little things we can all do which brings much joy to the elderly around us!
