On 25 May 2017, we conducted a Biodiversity Day in our centre. This is in conjunction with Singapore Biodiversity Week being organised by NParks. The objective is to promote protection and preservation of Singapore’s biodiversity.
Prior to the event, we collected Ground Orchid (Scientific Name: Spathoglottis plicata), a potted plant from NParks’ designated nursery.
On the day of event, teacher conducted sharing session with the potted plant. Children learnt about taking care of plant such as potting medium, light requirement, appropriate watering frequency and timing, and fertilizing. Also, the importance of plant in our environment.
The children were informed that they would take turns to take care of the potted plant at our mini garden.
During the event, children were also briefed about water pollution and its detrimental effects on both the marine biodiversity and humans. Children also discussed on the right ways and what we could to do to prevent and help saving marine creatures.
Through this event, children became more aware of the environment around them.
