After our first fund-raising drive held in early May, we raised a total of $43 from the sales of preloved items collected over 12 days period (1-12 May). Though it is not a big sum, we used this opportunity to teach the concept of money by matching a dollar to dollar and to buy suitable gifts within $43. We engaged our children in brainstorm sessions on the types of healthier choice food items they could buy for the seniors at Hougang Activity Centre. Before bringing the K-level children to Giant Hypermarket on 20 Jun, we did a virtual shopping experience to identify the suitable items that we would like to buy and to work around the budget of $43.
At the same time, parents are encouraged to bring in donation of food items to prepare for the actual visit to the Activity Centre on 6 July.
On 6 july, we brought 7 parent volunteers and 30 children to Fei Yue Hougang Activity Centre to present the items we have purchased and to conduct meaningful activities to promote bonding time with the seniors.
Prior to this event, the k-level children had fun making hand drawn fruit bingo game to play together with the seniors.
And after that activity, we got the k-level children to facilitate and guide the elderly in flower-making craft activity (that they are familiar with). We ended the session by getting the children to sing a song to the elderly and to express their appreciation for them through shaking of hands.
