Time flies and it was our sixth and final visit to the Bedok Dialysis Centre on 22 August 2017. Before we made our last visit to the patients at the Centre, we had lovingly prepared paper tulips and furry chicks for them with the help of Mrs Batnur and Mrs Chintawar. Some parent volunteers bought fruits from the market which were low in potassium. They arrived early at our kindergarten to wash, cut the fruits into bite size and packed them into plastic containers.
Then it was time to depart for the Bedok Dialysis Centre with a heavy heart as the parents and children knew that it would be their last visit to the centre. Firstly, we had our children to present a token of appreciation of an art piece designed by our children to Sister Lily from the Bedok Dialysis Centre. We also presented a little token of appreciation to Ms Lim Sze Ying, Medical Social Worker, and Ms Ruth Tan, Manageress of Care and Counselling, for organising and planning all our visits to the centre.
After our presentation, the children performed their favourite songs entitled - Because it is Singapore and Tian Fu De Hua Yuan. The children sang ‘Because it is Singapore’ song with gusto and pride as the patients were clapping and cheering for them. The patients were very touched by the little gestures the children had shown towards them. They also requested for the children to visit whenever they can especially during school holidays.
We would like to thank SSDB project for giving us this rare opportunity to have our children and parents to do their little part of community work to help the people who are chronically ill. Through this B.L.E.S.S project, children, parents and teachers have learnt to show our kindness to others despite our ‘busy’ schedule.
