One of the ultimate goals of Start Small Dream Big Project is to embark on activities that will teach children about charity. Teaching charity to kids can be both rewarding for teachers and children for learning about giving and helping others provide a feeling of empowerment and hone a sense of empathy which is the very core of charity.
A great way to install charitable values is to make giving a fun yet noble activity. The K2 children were encouraged to create an art work which they could sell during the charity fair sometime in September. The proceeds will go to the elderly at the COMNET Senior Service, our community partner who has been with us throughout the SSDB journey. Setting up this charity fair can show that even a little bit of money can make a difference when given with a good heart.
The children crafted an interesting texture art called rice art. With the use of old rice, we recycled and dyed them with various coloured paints. They used the coloured rice to fill and decorate an outline. The activity stimulated children’s creativity through a sensorial activity.
It is indeed important to teach young ones that they are part of a larger community and that we are responsible for everyone around us. By giving the value of charity of a central role in family and school we can encourage the children to grow up with healthy sense of compassion and a strong charitable spirit.
