Towards the end of our project, we had a little award ceremony to show appreciation to the children whose posters were nominated by a team of teachers and the top 5 posters voted by their fellow schoolmates from K1. We presented them a vegetable planting kit for the nominees and a bouquet of vegetables for the top 5 winners. We also presented a few bouquet of vegetables to appreciate the people who help protect and keep our school safe and clean.
One of our little winners helped out in washing and cooking the bouquet of vegetables, having a taste of her efforts put into planting and caring for them. She also got into action of planting her own vegetable using the planting kit.
We ended our project having our children documented their reflections in their journals. They shared their thoughts on saving and protecting the environment and talked about the activity that was most memorable and meaningful to them.
We are grateful for our parents’ involvement in supporting their child through this journey. Although the project has come to an end, the efforts towards a greener home and environment continues. We hope that the children can continue to upkeep the values and habits of going green and carry out small, feasible green habits that can be a part of their daily lifestyles with their families. No matter how small these little actions are, we can make a difference. After all, just as the SSDB motto says, “No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.”
