April 8 to 10 2019
Our inquiry started with a story sharing using the book, ‘How does my home work? Garbage and Recycling’ by Chris Oxlade.
From the story sharing, the children asked questions such as “What is rubbish/garbage?”, “Is leaf a garbage?”, “What is recycling?”, “What is that picture with arrows?”
We tried to find the answers to the questions, “What is rubbish/garbage?” and “Is leaf a garbage?” through
Watching a video clip about “Plastic Planet” and exploring our neighbourhood and looking for “What do you think is garbage?” and looking at the recycling bins.
After walking around the neighbourhood, the children were concerned with the rubbish/garbage they saw. Their teacher asked them, “ What can we do with the rubbish/garbage we see?”
They answered and said, “We can pick it up and throw it in the rubbish bin” and “We can recycle it”. Their teacher said it is a great idea and asked when can we pick up the rubbish? They suggested to do it during every Tuesday outdoor time.
