This year, our K1 students took part in the Start Small, Dream Big project which focused on Volunteerism. Throughout the year, the students learnt more about values of Love, Care and Concern, Respect, and Commitment through reading the big books provided to the school by Families For Life.
The students learnt the importance of these values and discussed about it with respect to how they interact with others. We focused on emulating these values during our weekly Intergeneration Bonding Programme session with the residents of NTUC Health (Pasir Ris) through games and hands-on activities where the students practiced speaking kindly to the residents and helping the residents with the activities conducted.
We concluded the project during our Teachers Day Party / Sports Day Celebration where we invited the residents to join us for our carnival. They participated in the games stations together with the K1 students who taught the residents about the different games and guided them on how to play the games.
We also invited Families For Life to come down during our celebration to conduct a parenting workshop that focused on the Languages of Love. Parents and students who signed up for it got to learn more about the different ways we understand and receive love, and through learning these values we can continue practising volunteerism with kindness and respect.
