A Song for Earth šŸŒ

The K2 children are not just ordinary Earth-saving heroes, they are also exemplary musicians who consider music as a platform to express their thoughts, creativity and imagination. It is a threshold that opens vast possibilities to relay a message of hope to peers, family, teachers and everyone around them. In spite of the chaos and uncertainty in the world, thereā€™s one thing that we hope will prevail in children. That is being able to enjoy their childhood in best ways possible.

Happily decorating our song sheet.

The children and I were engaged in a fun deliberation to come up with our own song dedicated to Earth. The song was inspired to the tune of ā€œClementineā€ which children are very familiar with. As soon as they heard the melody of the song, they then started talking about how to help the animals, how to help plants survive. Some mentioned about COVID and cited ways to prevent the virus while others talked about the importance of being kind to others as Earth calls for us not just for help but for unity of mankind.

Seeing children eagerly sharing their thoughts and diligently forming the lyrics of the song was just astonishing. They even explored with various percussion instruments while I played the keyboard and sang our hearts out together during a magnificent performance. Although it took us some time to polish it, it was worthwhile and itā€™s the memory that counts. As we sing the song every day during large group or small group sessions, we are reminded of how blessed we are to be surrounded with significant people who love and care for us. Thus, it becomes our driving force to keep going and enjoy the journey of life while upholding our values.

Music is what feelings sound like and is the best form of magic šŸŽ¶ šŸŽµ šŸ„šŸŽ¹

This SSDB project perhaps enabled us educators to realise our aspirations for the children. Besides promoting environmental awareness in them, they never failed to find joy in every little things they do. Whether they have their orange hats on or not, contributing to sustainability of the Earth has become their priority. And with their simple yet impactful actions, they exude the values of perseverance, patience and kindness which is the very essence of the project. Seeing parents, teachers and children establish a healthy synergy as they embark on initiatives with a purpose is indeed a gratifying accomplishment.

Cheers to our beloved Earth, hereā€™s a special song for youā¤ļø
