For this year’s SSDB project, we involved everyone from our Kindergarten..beginning with our Nursery classes- Jade and Ruby class, following with the K1’s- Fuji and Everest and finally the K2’s- Mercury and Jupiter.
Each class is given a topic to work on as we wanted to show how we can care for the environment that we love.
For Nursery, they explore the topic “We keep our surroundings clean because we CARE!”. With that, the teachers planned a session of spring cleaning around the mosque compound with the students from Jade and Ruby. It was fun and fruitful as at the end of the session, we can see a much cleaner, rubbish-free environment!
For the K1’s, they learn various ways of protecting oneself from viruses. They did a take home project with their parents on “My healthy dish”. It was a yummy yet healthy experience.
They also learn that to be happy, we need to keep healthy. We learn to wash our hands well and clean our classroom space after work-time to prevent spread of diseases.
For K2’s, we embark on how the earth needs to be healthy and happy. We need clean air and this can be done by having more greenery in our environment. Children learn that plants produce oxygen and these are needed in our everyday life. We also learn the parts of a plant and what are the functions for each part. Plants are an important contributor to our cleaner air and so we did some planting in the classroom.
It was an enriching and meaningful experience for our students this year as we go through the project for this term.
We do hope that what we do creates a little impact to our environment. We would continue efforts in instilling awareness to care for the environment in our students because Al-Khair Mosque Kindergarten CARES!
