“Share our love to doctors and nurses in United Medicare Centre @Toa Payoh during National Day Celebration with elderly”
On 6th August, we celebrated Singapore National Day with United Medicare Centre @ Toa Payoh. Due to COVID-19 situation, Nursery 2 to Kindergarten 2 children did the performance for elderly via the Zoom Application. Toddler and Nursery 1 children also showed their love to the doctors and nurses whose contributed to our society during this difficult time. They decided to make homemade jelly to show their love for the doctors and nurses.
The teacher explained the ingredients and steps to all of the children. Children followed the steps to make the jelly with little guidance from teacher. Toddler child was involved with stirring the agar-agar powder in a small cup and poured it into the big pot. Teacher boiled it with safe distance from children and explained safety precaution with children to make sure they enjoy the cooking class while being safe. After the celebration, teachers delivered the homemade jelly to UMC doctors and nurses to thank them for their contribution and wish them Happy National Day.
N2 Class
‘Parental Involvement : Poster of Water Conservation’
The class learnt the importance of conserving water and the different ways of using water in school. To extend their learning, this parent-child activity was carried out to involve parents in creating awareness and reinforce the children’s learning about the importance of water at home. In this activity, the children were given an information sheet about making a poster by using recycled materials on water conservation.
The children happily demonstrated to their parents how they can save water at home. At their young age, they learned how to reduce their water usage by :
After which, they brought them to school to share their experience during the Show-and-Tell session. The children were very excited to share their work in class.
D-“This is my poster, my mum helped me to do it. We draw how we show care and love to water at home by: using less water, using a cup when brushing teeth, taking shorter showers, and recycle water.”
This activity motivated the children to learn more about saving water and why water is so precious to everyone. We believe that “No dream is too big, and no dreamer too small”. With the guidance of their parents at home the children are more inspired to love and care to save water for our future.
K1 Class
In continuation of the SSDB Project of K1 class, the children were taught about the basic concepts of water, where water comes from and the basic understanding about the water cycle.
The children were also given home learning support about Water Filtration. They learnt the importance of every drop of water through the experiment ‘water filtration’. They learnt to appreciate that each drop of water does not come easy, and we must not take the availability of water for granted.
Teacher engaged the parents in imparting knowledge to children about the use and importance of water. The activity benefits both the children and their family as they made own water filter using plastic bottle, sands, gravel and cotton. After that, they collected water from the drain and tried their home-made filter to make the water clean.
K1 students were also introduced to the ‘Water Saving Tips’. First, teacher asked the children to suggest ways on how they save water . This lesson helped them realise some of their actions that are wasting water and on how they can help save water. They were asked to colour the 5 Water Saving Tips and they also created a slogan on water conservation.
K2 Class
‘Poster - Making on Conserving Water’
After listening to the story ‘Water Wally Adventure’, K2s were reminded about ways to Conserve Water. For their home activity, a task was given to make a poster on ‘Water Conservation’. From the variety of ways they learnt, children picked one and discussed with their parent on how they will make a poster on it. Together, they explored art materials and discussed on steps to make the poster such as drawing, colouring and writing descriptions.
The posters were presented to the whole class during Show-and Tell session.
Another activity that class did together was ‘Making and Reciting A Pledge on Saving Water’. Standing confidently, K2s recited their developed pledge, promising to conserve water wherever they are.
‘Creating Water Droplet Chains’
K2 class also made water droplet chains which they attached to their bags to be reminded to continue Save Water everywhere they go:)
