“Zion Kindergarten Pledged to Love” – Community Service Project Week
This is the first year our Pre-Nursery learners participate in the Start Small Dream Big movement. Our intention is to help our littlest ones adopt a thankful spirit in all they do. Together with our parent volunteers, our children put together a thank you party for people in their community.
In phase one, Ms Jenny Lim, our parent volunteer kicked start the Community Service Project Week sharing a story and song to create awareness to the importance of cultivating a spirit of thankfulness.
In phase two, the children were introduced to the people in our community whom we have invited to the Thank You Party. Who are they? They are a special group people whom we interact with daily – the church staff who render help and support in the operation and maintenance of the kindergarten premise.
In phase three, the children were actively involved in the preparation of door gifts and wall decoration for the party.
Our young learners had a wonderful time interacting with our invited guests at the Thank You Party. They had the opportunities to apply what they learned.
This wonderful project is made possible with support and participation from our parent volunteers. Some parents generously contributed food and desserts to bless our guests. During the post Community Service Week discussion, our learners communicated what they learned – the appropriate mannerism when interacting with others, be kind to the people in the community and be thankful for the help received from others.
The journey has just begun, we have follow up Home-School project where we partner with parents to help our students recognise the opportunities to be kind and practice kindness at home.
