“Our Family, Our Community” – is the theme of this year’s SSDB movement in support of the Year of Celebrating SG Families (YCF). Through this project, we will teach children to show appreciation and care for one’s family, and those around us in our community such as, our neighbors, friends, vulnerable groups, frontline workers and cleaners. It will also encourage children to reach out and contribute to the community, with proper safe management measure in place.
Through different activities and programs inside and outside the school, the children will be able to appreciate the importance of family and community helpers.
To kick start our SSDB project, we had our launching activity with the children and parents.
During the children’s launch the teachers were able to come up with their plans to teach children about “Families”. The teachers in N2-K2 involved the children in planning by doing the KWL chart wherein the children had the opportunity to express their opinions and knowledge about “Families”. They were also able to share the different activities that they wanted to do for this year SSDB project.

The teacher read a story book entitled “Happy Birthday, Dawn” to the children. This story teaches children to be self-less and learn how to give and show love to others especially to their loved ones. The children learnt the song “I Love My Family” from Families for Life songs. Teachers used this opportunity to share about the five love languages with children. It helps to create awareness in children on what kind of love they want to give and receive from the people around them. They also do “show and tell” of their family pictures as they introduced their family members with their friends.
We planned different activities for the children to achieve our goals for this project and we integrated this in our centre’s celebrations.
As part of our Parent’s Day Celebration cum SSDB Launch with the parents, the children put up performances, created beautiful artworks and said their ‘love’ message to the parents as a way of showing their respect, gratitude and love to them.

We had our SSDB launching together with our Parents Day celebration via zoom. During the launch, we shared to the parents the video of our SSDB launching with the children, performances put up by each class level, making of artworks and of course our plans and goals for this year SSDB project.
We also have Parent-child bonding activity during the event wherein we were able to collaborate with our two parents as they planned the activity with us. The activity was “making medals” for community helpers.
The parents were able to facilitated the making of medals as they are the ones who came up with the template and designs.
We will use these medals to appreciate our Toa Payoh East community helpers by going to nearby polyclinic or police post so children will be able to distribute their ‘handmade medal’ to our community helpers.
