Starting June 2020, our Nursery children embarked on a fun and meaningful journey towards Zero Waste as part of our 2020 SSDB project. We named our project “Tiny Hands, Big Heart” to encourage and guide children to adopt the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) to help tackle the waste management issues in Singapore. Throughout this project, our Nursery children will explore and brainstorm ideas to create upcycle crafts and products using recyclables.
On 26th June 2020, we celebrated the launch of our SSDB project. Due to the current situation, we celebrated our launch party in our respective classrooms with safe-distancing measures in place. Children brought their recyclables from home to put into the recycling bins which they have made using cardboard boxes.
Children learned to identify and sort the recyclables according to plastic, paper and metal.
To be part of Singapore’s journey to become a Zero Waste nation, the children pledge their support and commitment to be a Zero Waste Ambassador by placing their handprints on the pledge poster.
Children also coloured their ‘I Love Earth’ headgear made from recycled papers.
Our Nursery children had a lot of fun participating in the activities during the Launch Party. Moving on, we will continue to plan activities to encourage and guide children to explore ways to care for the environment through the zero waste lifestyle by recycling and upcycling. Stay tune!
