On 25th May 2018:
To start off with our SSDB Project “Small Hands, Big Hearts”, we blasted off with showing elderly at St Luke’s Eldercare some love and kindness. The Kindergarten 1 & 2 children prepared dance performances to let the elderly enjoy and have fun! Each class performed an English song followed by a combined Chinese Martial arts performance which was choreographed by one parent!
To much surprise, the children were more excited and less stage fright while performing happily. The faces of the elderly were rewarding to them too. Most of them smiled and clapped along during the performances.
The children’s act of kindness continued after the performances! Elderly and children were given time and opportunity to interact with one another through a craft activity. Thankful to Singapore Kindness Movement for sending us their kindness pack which we were able to use it for the bonding time. It was an simple yet engaging craft. The children presented the kindness buss craft to the elderly they worked with.
The children were heard using kind words with a care and concern tone towards the elderly. While speaking to a few elderly, they told me that they were impressed with their performances and was thankful for coming to brighten their day. Some went further to even thank the teachers for preparing and coming down to warm their hearts. After the first act, some children also commented that it was memorable to be able to talk to the elderly and reminded that of their grandparents too!
Thank you St Luke’s Eldercare @ Tampines for accomodating us and giving us the opportunity to leave an impression during the visit!
Good job children for the memorable experience!
