In conjunction to our SSDB this year, our Centre decided to collaborate with Sparkle Care PAP Community Foundation. We prepared some activities that our children can do together with the elderly in the Sparkle Care Centre.
Firstly as an ice-breaker we prepare a Chinese New Year performance for the elderly. Our Chinese teacher taught the K1 and K2 children a simple Chinese New Year sing and dance item. Donning with their Chinese New Year traditional costume, our K1 and K2 children performed the sing and dance item for the elderly on 21 February 2018.
On 5 April 2018, our K2 children went to Sparkle Care to do craft painting with the elderly there. Together they did ‘glass’ painting. Both the elderly and children put in a lot of effort in completing their ‘glass’ painting.
On 26 July 2018, another group of K2 children went to Sparkle Care to complete the outer frame for the ‘glass’ painting. The K2 children worked together with the elderly to decorate the outer frame using the decorative materials that were provided.
From this activities, we hope that the children in our Centre will learn to treasure the elderly and be more appreciative towards their grandparents. We also hope that the elderly enjoyed their time spent with the young children.
