Our tagline for this year is ‘Caring for the Environment’. Since dengue cases in Singapore has been on the rise, our Centre has decided to embark on the ‘Mosquito Prevention’ project to create awareness in children that dengue can be fatal and how we can prevent mosquito breeding in the environment as well as at home.
To further enhance children’s learning, the children did a poster on ‘Ways to Prevent Mosquito Breeding’ with their parents. The children brought back their completed project and had a meaningful sharing session with their peers.
Jia Xuan (K2): “Turn the pail over.”
Herlisya (K2): “Cover the toilet bowl.”
Kayden (K1): “Put BTI insecticide at home.”
Lastly, the children did a ‘Mozzie Wipeout’ dance to reinforce the importance of keeping mosquitoes away. Teachers feel that this project is meaningful as children could learn from young in taking care of the environment starting from their homes and gradually learning to care for the environment around them.
Hence, this project is a success in reminding the children, teachers as well as the public on the importance of preventing mosquito breeding.
