PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Tampines North Blk 483 had embarked on our SSDB 2020 project with a focus on aspiring our K2 students on values of Care, Inclusiveness, Friendship and Community. We would like to dedicate this project to appreciate our neighbourhood cleaners, who worked very hard to keep our estate clean and safe for us!
For Care, the students did several role plays on different scenarios, like seeing those in need of seats more than them in a bus, seeking help on behalf of others in times of an emergency, being a responsible member of a public at the park and roadside, and many more. The children were encouraged to reflect and express their feelings and thoughts on how they can show care for others and acts that reflects social responsibility.
On inclusiveness, the students learnt about the different reasons people from all over the world come to Singapore and how they too had played a role in building up Singapore. The students created a web about the reasons, feelings and contributions of the different races. They were also introduced to the CEIMO-CEIMO dance, which is a medley of folk dances from the different races and cultures in Singapore.
On Friendship, the students learnt about the meaning of friendship and its importance. They played a guessing game on identifying their friends while being blindfolded. They were also encouraged to express a positive attribute of their friend that they like on a given cut out of their friend.
Last but not least, on the value of community, the children understood how the community helpers had played a role in the betterment of our neighbourhood. They posed questions for their teachers to ask the community workers to help them have an insight on their daily lives.
From here, the Centre then conducted activities that will allow the students to have an opportunity to show appreciation to the neighbourhood cleaners. Students not only made cards with personalised messages but were also involved in a cookie baking activity that were to be given out as part of the thank you gift for the workers.
