SSDB Launch 2019

Recycling is important in today’s world to sustain this planet for future generations. It does not only save resources and send less trash to landfills, it also helps in reducing air and water pollution. We aim to nurture a love for our environment and reinforce the concepts of reuse, reduce and recycle from a young age through engaging and hands-on activities. We will also raise awareness of the 3R’s by collaborating with parents and the community to make a greater impact on this planet.

In line with that, our SSDB launch focused on the 3R’s and showing love to our environment. It was held on 30 April and over 30 children and parents attended the launch event. It was a memorable and meaningful day where we joined hands to save the Earth.

The event started with a planting workshop conducted by one of our children’s uncle, Mr Ang. He showed the parents and children how to turn recycled bottles into pots for plants.

After the demonstration, parents and children tried making their own pots out of recycled bottles. They also planted herb seeds such as thyme to place it at our herbs pallet garden.

Apart from the planting workshop, there were 2 other activities prepared for the parents and children - upcycling clothes and banner-making.

At the upcycling clothes station, parents and children used old clothes and turned them into pillowcase and floor mats.

Meanwhile at the banner-making station, parents and children came up with an environmental message to spread awareness about saving the Earth.

After that, everyone headed out to the garden to display their recycled pots at the herbs pallet garden.

Nearing to the end of the event, the children surprised their parents with a special performance of our own song entitled ‘Save Our World For You and Me’. The song sent a message about the importance and ways of saving the earth.

After the event, parents shared that they enjoyed the event and how it was meaningful to both parents and children. They understood the importance of inculcating love and positive habits for the environment from young. Some even expressed interest in similar events in the future. We can’t wait for our upcoming projects!
