On 8 August 2019, YWCA Ang Mo Kio CDC held its very first National Day Carnival!
And when you hear “carnival”, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? That’s right! Food and games!
But before we started or day full of food, drinks and fun games, we had a little Zumba session with the children, their mummies and daddies.
We set up different food and drink stations for our carnival. We had something you’d call a “blast from the past”. Why do we say that? Because we had food that the mummies and daddies enjoyed during their childhood days which we also let our kids (from all levels) try out!
Colourful and yummy biscuits from the early days.
And the ever so popular Kacang Puteh!
The children got to bond with their teachers, friends, mummies and daddies at the carnival while munching on treats and playing games.
We even had a “tattoo booth” where our parent volunteers placed National Day tattoos for everyone!
But do you know how the carnival was made extra special? The kids got to try to “buy” their food/drink/game on their own. They used their coupons to purchase what they liked because they were given the opportunity to make their own choices for food/drink/game that day. They were all so excited!
This was not just an ordinary National Day celebration for us. We sold coupons to the parents and children to use that day and the proceeds are to be used to buy our costumes and props for our movie this September.
We can’t wait to show everyone our movie and perform for everyone at the SSDB 2019 Finale Appreciation Ceremony too. 😁
