Being self-sustainable is a way of protecting our ecosystem and preserving natural resources for future generations. One of the ways to support sustainable development is to plant vegetables and fruits in our garden.
During outdoors, children are encouraged to explore the different types of plantations in the school garden such as the pandan leaves and the blue pea plant. The children learnt how to take good care of the plants by taking turns to dig the soil and water the plants.
On Earth Day, the children visited their garden to harvest the various vegetables. The children harvested the green beans and water spinach plant that they have planted. They brought these vegetables back to class and cooked them in class. The children enjoyed their stir-fried Kang Kong along with the green bean soup for snack. Through this, the children were able to understand how a garden can allow us to become self-sustainable by growing the foods on our own.
