For June Holiday 2024 the K1, K1 & SCC students of Appleland Montessori travel to Singapore Discovery Centre for the Knock! Knock! Hello Neighbour Programme, to where we were greeted with a beautiful rainbow.
For the programme, the students learn about common spaces in our neighbourhood; different people that makes up our neighbourhood; and how to make use of those common spaces to be a good neighbour.
Briefing time:
The students had 4 different activities to showcase their creativity and their thinking.
Activity 1, “Shaping up Together” was a 2D shaping activity where the students were given 2D shapes to form common areas found in the neighbourhood. The shapes represent different people, and how different people help make our neighbourhood. The students worked in a group and eagerly tried to form a playground.
Activity 2, “The Ties That Binds Us” was a 3D shaping activity using 3D blocks to try to create common areas to represent the building blocks to build a good neighbourhood.
Activity 3, “What Binds Us” was a short tour in the Sandbox Gallery at Our People, Our Home. The students eagerly explore and interact with the gallery as it peeks into common spaces around Singapore, how it has changed over time shaping the people of Singapore.
Activity 3: Exploring Singapore Discovery Centre
Lastly Activity 4:
“Void Deck Party” was a sticker activity where the students were given the opportunity to be a good neighbour by planning their own Void Deck Party and decorate the Void Deck. Some of the children were interested at the idea that they can throw a party at the Void Deck.
Void Deck Party: The students learn how to use common spaces found in our neighbourhood and different ways to show appreciation for the different cultures by using those common spaces.
