At the beginning of the project, the children did several activities on Kindness. One of the first few activities that they did was creating a class storybook about friendship. The story talks about offering a helping hand and honesty. The class decided to include the magic words- Thank You, You’re Welcome, Sorry and Please in their story.
The class storybook is displayed in the classroom and children read it all the time.
Parents were also involved in our Kindness Please project. Children brought home an activity kit that required the children to complete the checklist of “good deeds” at home. In addition, parents also helped their child to create a “Kindness Book” in which the children recorded their best kind deeds that they did for a month and each child presented their book in front of the class.
The project went on with more activities
that made the children realized that they are surrounded with people showering them with kindness in one way or another.
In relation to this, the class made a kindness wall entitled, “Be the “I” in kind.”
Children thought of a person who showed kindness to them and encouraged them to talk about that person in front of the class.
The project ended with a reflection journal by the children. Each child wrote the things they liked about the project and what it means to be kind.
As a whole, the class learned that Kindness is ageless, kindness means happiness and kindness colors the world.
