We are honoured and delighted to participate in Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) again in 2022! Food is a big part of our lives and we asked our children if they know how their daily food come about or what ingredients were used to create their plates of pasta. They came up with a bunch of adorable answers, most of them were, “Mommy buy for me!” So, we decided to bring our children on a journey with us called, “Farm to table”!
The main objective of this project was to explore food origins. We also decided to create awareness on supporting local food production and recognise local produce logo as well as the importance of food safety.
After several discussions with the children, they planned to try growing vegetables and share their harvest with the community. To get the ball rolling, we sought the expertise of Singapore Food Agency (SFA) to make this journey a successful one.
During our launch in May, we invited Ms Felicia from SFA via zoom to understand more about local food production. Ms Felicia is the Assistant Director from the Community Partnership Department and her role is to educate the community on Singapore’s food situation. She shared two stories titled, “Food Security-the Singapore food story” and “Food safety,” with the upper levels and their parents. She gave beneficial information about food security and the importance of not being reliant on imported goods during difficult times.
There was a quiz at the end of the presentation to recap on the children’s understanding. The children enjoyed listening to the stories and had the opportunity to interact with Ms Felicia from SFA. For example, did you know we have 220 farms in Singapore?
The SFA zoom session got the children enthusiastic to start their project as soon as possible so stay tuned for more updates and get excited as we embark on this journey together!
