2022 marks the 4th year that PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ MacPherson Blk 108 continues its collaboration with National Library Board (NLB) for SSDB.
Based on the theme “_Caring for our Public Libraries_”, we aim to:
•Encourage preschoolers and their families to experience the library, such as through storytelling sessions
•Emphasise the importance of caring for our Public Libraries and library materials
Children had an opportunity to visit the Public Libraries during the June School Holidays with their family. They were tasked to complete the “Librarian’s Challenge”, where they had to look out for facilities or equipment found in the library. Prior to their visit, children were introduced to the Library Etiquette song to better understand the dos and donts at the library.
On 15 July 2022, children went to Geylang East Public Library for a library tour. As they were divided into smaller groups, children had an up close & personal interaction with librarians and actively asked questions. Children learnt about different colour codes for different language books. They were introduced to the online catalogue that they could use to check the availability of a book in the library, as well as experienced borrowing and returning books at the respective kiosks.
At the end of the tour, children enjoyed a storytelling session conducted by the librarians. They participated actively in answering questions posed, such as identifying the characters and counting the number of times they appeared.
As some of them brought their library cards along, they were able to look for books of their interest and borrow them.
The public library is more than a repository of books. It’s a mysterious, wondrous place with the power to change lives. -Elizabeth Taylor
