In the month of June yearly, Appleland Montessori organises a June Holiday Programme suited for the children to go on various learning journeys and acquire new skills through experiencing fun and exciting activities. Children from different classes or age groups get to explore different set of activities.

As for the K1, K2 and Student Care (SCC) children, they were given the opportunity to experience a 3 days and 2 nights camp away from home.

The purpose of the camp is to encourage independence in children and creating a bond between friends and also, teachers. The camp took place in Appleland Montessori Centre during the dates 12th, 13th and 14th June 2024. There was a total of 9 K1 Children, 10 K2 children and 15 BA children alongside 6 teachers.

On the first day, all campers arrived in school by 9.30 am with big smiles on their faces as they anticipated the activities lined up for them. After labelling all their personal belongings and placing them at the side neatly, all campers were split into 3 groups led by 3 teachers respectively. Each group has a mix number of different age groups to balance out individual strengths and weaknesses. First activity was ‘Group Logo Making’. Children put on their thinking caps to brainstorm unique designs to represent them as a group.

Once completed, children gathered around to help with the preparation of lunch. They assisted the cook in chopping up vegetables including carrots and bokchoy as well as fishball and crabstick to be made into a delicious chicken soup eaten with noodles.

Following that, all campers had a short nap in the afternoon before an hour of outdoor games which the children played the tag game with a new rule of ‘safehouse’ and pass the egg relay using a spoon. Children participated in the games actively and showed kindness towards one another by helping their groupmates when in need.

After tiring themselves out, campers went back to school to cool down and have their afternoon snack which they munched on biscuits and crackers brought by the teachers and some of the campers’ parents.

To end off the first night, all campers changed into their white t-shirts to go on their night walk adventure. The night walk around the neighbourhood was fun and exciting for the children as for some of them it is their first time going out at night with their friends. This created a bond between them as they had to stay close to one another and ensure that everyone is safe and accounted for during the walk. Campers got to stop and play at 2 different playgrounds for 30 minutes before making their way back to school for dinner.

Dinner was scrumptious with a bowl filled with rice, stir-fried vegetables, and fried chicken. Children quickly devoured their food after a long walk. They were also treated with ice cream cups each by a lovely parent. We ended the day with a movie night before getting comfortable in their pyjamas, ready for a goodnight sleep.

The second day came along, children got up bright and early at 8.00am. The main activity for the day was children will be going to Kids Amaze. An indoor playground located at SAFRA Jurong. Before leaving, children fuelled themselves with a hearty breakfast consist of egg sandwiches and a cup of milo. And they are off.

A few hours of fun ended as children make their way back to school. However, sadness turned to happiness as they looked forward for more exciting activities for the day.

Children were instructed to quickly changed to their swimming costumes for water play activity. The water play was conducted at the centre corridor. They participated in a water relay game using paper cups and had some time for free play where children got to splash water at their friends and teachers. All children and teachers were drenched from head to toe with big smiles on their faces. A great bonding activity indeed!

Nighttime dawned upon, dinner was served after a tiring day and a movie night before lights off.

Rise and shine, the last day of camp finally arrived. Children woke up missing their parents and loved ones but was also feeling sad that the 3 days and 2 nights camp is coming to an end. Before dismissal, the last activity was to clean up the camp area. Children gathered in their groups to pick up any litters on the floor and recycle any bottles or newspapers used during camp.

This sums up Appleland Montessori 3 days 2 nights 2024 camp. Till next time!
