To kick start the annual project, “Our Little Entrepreneurs”, the children went on an incredible learning journey to the Singapore Zoo on 10 July 2017, for a better understanding of one of Singapore’s wildlife creatures - the smooth-coated otters. The children had hands-on sessions to learn from the zookeepers on what it entailed to take care of the otters.
The smooth-coated otters were far away from their natural habitats of mangrove swamps, forested rivers and wetlands. The children discovered the challenges which the otters faced daily, living in an urban environment. They learnt to sort certain items into recycled bins, and how to keep the waterways clean, in order to provide a safer home for the animals.
Back at the Centre, the teachers and children brainstormed on how to raise funds to help the otters that they met at the Zoo.
There was then a carnival held in school on 20 July afternoon where the children learnt to sell snacks and items (donated new reusable gifts) and otter themed craft, and manage game booths. They were encouraged by the adults and peers who patronised the booths in support of their initiative.
