The theme of our annual Little Entrepreneur Project was “Love and Harmony start with Me” carried the message of conserving Singapore’s endangered native wildlife and our children’s support of the “Start Small, Dream Big” initiative by the Early Childhood Development Agency. On 10th July 2017, children attended a workshop at the zoo to understand what kind of challenges the otters face. To further create awareness, they decided to hold a carnival in the centre.
Prior to the carnival, the children brainstormed on various ways to help the plight of these animals. They came up with ideas such as selling handmade crafts, having fun-filled otter related games and food booths for the carnival. Children made photo frames using embellishments stickers, sequins, stones and sea shells which incorporates the message of “I Love Otters”. Children also made banners to decorate their booths. To patronise their stalls, they encouraged their parents to buy coupons for the carnival. The carnival was held on 20th August 2017. Through this experience of making and selling their unique art work, our children were given first-hand experience in setting up and managing their stalls like an entrepreneur. There was a great sense of achievement when the children understood that they were raising fund for “Save the Otters” project.
Parents were ecstatic when they were informed that the proceeds would be given to the Singapore Wildlife Reserve for the adoption of otters, and that their little ones could play a part in helping the endangered species.
The children prepared the food for their very own Food Store.
The children had fun manning their store that sell books.
The teachers supported the children’s stores by purchasing snacks for themselves.
The children had fun with the games stores set up by them in school.
