A day before SSDB Launch Party
We received the SSDB resources package with joy. All teachers are very excited and enthusiastic to decorate our centre and prepare them for the children and parents. We are ...
Passionate, experienced and engaged
These three words best described the staff in the centre, from the Principal to the teachers. The Principal and teachers work closely to come up with programmes and activities to enhance the children’s learning.
In every class, you will find teachers engaged in learning activities with their children in small groups. Every child is assigned meaningful and constructive activities at the various corners. The children are actively engaged – learning through the materials provided in each learning corner and communicating with their peers as they work and play together.
The learning corners are well-defined, appropriately set-up according to the themes and inviting (with colourful displays and age-appropriate learning materials). The teachers have done a good job in making the learning environment vibrant and stimulating.
Multi-intelligence (MI) Blogs
The centre works with Ednoland to introduce a blogging tool to the children. The children learn to insert media, paint, insert music, record voice, etc to create their own blogs. In the process of creating these blogs, children's multiple intelligences - numeracy, logical, creative, language, interpersonal, intrapersonal and technological skills etc. are being enhance and stimulated. They also develop confidence and public speaking skills as they need to share with their friends and parents about their blogs.
Besides this blogging tool, Ednoland also design activities for children to do over the weekend with their parents. Emails will be sent to parents and teachers to provide them with the web links. Parents can then click on the links and work through the fun activities with their children.
Activity Day
Fridays are activity days for the centre. The day usually starts off with a Mass Workout followed by activities related to the Clean and Green School programme. Sometimes the staff and children would take a walk round the neighbourhood (Once a month). Teachers will make use of this opportunities to plan activities for children to learn beyond the classroom. This is also the day for children to work on their MI blog; Zippy's Friends (collaborate with Health Promotion Board), Fruit's Day and Core Value Day where teachers use various activities to help children learn good values and behaviour.
Future Plans
There are plans to further extend the MI Blog programme to further stretch the children’s learning.
The centre will also be starting Pre-Nursery classes from 2013.
