Multi-purpose indoor playground
PCF Geylang Serai Blk 11 has been accredited by SPARKS for incorporating the different values in their activities and curriculum through the use of task cards and their indoor playground. Yes! There is an indoor playground in the centre which ensures safety of the children through the close watch of the teachers.
The indoor playground is part of their learning centre – Motor Skills Development (MSD). Students have to climb a rock wall before walking to the slide and sliding down. Besides using the rock wall and slide as a form of exercise, students can use the bottom part of playground as their home. There is small kitchen with cooking items where children can role-play. The school emphasizes role play as an important component in children’s development. Role play helps to improve children’s communication skills when children play together. Teachers also assign the playground as a quiet reading corner.
Computer-based learning
As technology is growing every day, schools start to educate students on IT since young. The centre uses Ednoland software which teaches students basic IT skills. Students can create their own videos with mixing and matching pictures and music. Ednoland programmes such as Kinderkit also help to reinforce what the students have learnt in class before such as numbers.
Enriching the mind
The centre provides enrichment classes for the students, such as Speech and Drama in English and KidsRead. KidsRead is conducted by National Library Board (NLB) that is catered more for the KIFAS students to promote reading through storytelling weekly. Teachers also posts newspaper clippings in the centre so students will be exposed to currents events occurring in Singapore and also around the world.
