World Water Day

In conjunction with World Water Day, the children were engaged in a variety of water activities during the March holidays. Our goal was to inculcate good water habits in children and educate them about the importance of water.

The first thing the older children learned was where water came from. The children were engaged in a sharing session by My Preschool Shines where they learned about the water cycle and ways on how they can save water. After that, they created their own water cycle and observed how water travels.

For the younger children, they created their own water wall to observe water. They used recycled bottles for the water to flow through.

The children were then introduced to Water Wally and Water Sally and watched videos to learn how and why they should save water. Then, they made their own headgears to pretended to be Water Wally and Water Sally as they go about the day being conscious of water. The children also brought recycled bottle to experience water rationing like how Singapore did in the past. This real life experience helped them gain a better understanding of how precious water is.

To understand the effects of water pollution, the children had water play where they tried to clean the polluted water and save sea creatures. The children explored with different tools such as nets and spades as they scooped the trash and sea creatures. At the end, the children noticed that it was difficult to make the water clean and that this will make the sea creatures die.

Upon discovering the problem, they created their own water filter using recycled bottle and filled it with tissue paper, rocks and marbles. They used the polluted water earlier on and filtered it. After a while, they watched the water turn clear.

Apart from that, the children also played a game where they had to pass as much water from one end to another. This game challenged the children to be careful with water as they understand how precious it is. What a meaningful week about water!
