We started off with having a discussion and sharing about what kindness is, how we can show kindness towards others and the importance of kindness.
One of the boys in class shared that he wants to make cards for his friends. The teacher then asked if we can show kindness to not only the people we see everyday but to our community and the children excitedly shared that they want to give something nice. When the teacher asked the children on which community helpers they would want to encourage, the children started sharing their opinion.
We then did a voting - the most number of votes, we will gift them a keychain (from Singapore Kindness Movement) and some words of encouragement board.
After some voting, the option that received the most number of votes was… Polyclinic - for the doctors and nurses!
The children then quickly got to work!
They first coloured the mini colouring page and came up with words they wanted to say to the doctors and nurses - “You can do it!”, “I love you” and “Thank you”. The children then placed it in a keychain.
Next, our intern from Temasek Polytechnic prepared a board. The children drew on a balloon cut out - pictures related to doctors and nurses - a picture of a group of doctors and nurses, an ambulance, a hospital, medicine and many more. They then pasted it on the board.
On 12th August 2021, both the teacher and the intern felt really honoured to be able to meet and gift the encouragement board, the keychains and some coffee and Milo instant packets as light refreshments to Dr Koh Kim Hwee who is a Clinic Director at the Polyclinic in our area.
