To begin this year’s SSDB project on saving the Earth, we had a Launch Party with parental involvement, and involved K1 parents were invited to join us via Zoom. It was held on 22 April 2021, which was on Earth’s Day 21!
Prior to the Launch Party, we have children to create a useable and useful item out of recycled materials at home, then take a short video of child introducing their item, such as what materials were used, the process of making the item, etc.
Parents were very creative on making items which are useful and trendy. Children also made their posters, banners related to the theme to decorate their classroom. Additionally, we selected 3 songs of children’s choice to perform during the Launch Party.
On the day of Earth’s Day/ SSDB Launch Party 21, we have performance, fashion walk and craft showcase.
To make this project memorable, we invented our own mascot, “Blippi”, which was named and voted by the children. They contributed ideas on the structure of the enormous mascot, making it a friend of the class!
Thereafter, we read the “Captain Green” storybook series to raise awareness on being a responsible individual, reflecting on the good choices towards building a clean and green environment.
Due to Covid19 situation, we were unable to have a field trip to the Semakau Island. Hence, we had a virtual field trip to Semakau Island, as well as the process of recycling truck retrieving the items from recycling bin, before bringing it to the Recycling Centre!
Lastly, to end off, we did invited NTUC Health to do a dance performance with us and children will name out 1 thing thwypld do to protect and save their Planet Earth! We also had an oath tree on the ways to conserve water.
This marks the end of the meaningful and fruitful journey to be a green hero. Children are more aware of various ways to be part of saving the planet Earth, especially to protect their environment!
