Waste Not: A Journey on Sustainability

With the ongoing partnership with our community garden, we like to foster awareness on staying sustainable with food. What can we do with leftovers? What does our food come from?

Our Children’s Garden

What can we do with our leftovers? As we explore together with our gardener, Ms Mei, the children had opportunities to discuss and engage in composting activities. We created our very own compost and observe the changes in it before adding the mixture into our soil.

Growing edibles and harvesting process

As we learned about the leftovers, the children then wondered, “Where does the food we eat come from?” We then set into growing edibles at the garden. Our K1 and K2 children worked together to label, grow and care for their plants at the garden. And our fruits of labour paid off! The children then harvested the plants and we included it in our meals.

Oh! What Farm with Singapore Discovery Centre

We had our launch party together with Singapore Discovery Centre as we participated in their workshops, learning more about our local farming.

We had a chance to visit their outdoor garden where they observe the hydroponics planting and other plants.

What can we do after harvesting?

The children continued to engage in activities after our field trip. They explored and experimented with the blue pea flowers. They mixed it with water and observe the change in colours. At the same time, understanding the benefits of the plant.

What’s next?

We will continue to work closely with our community partners and other platforms to create deeper understanding on sustainability!
