In Phase 1, the children explored 3 different Focus Topics revolving around the subject of Plants.
The children explored the Plants We Can See:
They discussed the various plants they see around them, in the city, at home, at Gardens by the Bay, and in school. They explored the 5W1H of the physical appearances of different plants.
The children explored the Plants We Can Eat:
They dlearnt about the 8 different groups of Vegetables, catergorized by which part of the plant is edible. The children explored and experimented using “edible plants” (different fruits and vegetables) by blending, steaming, frying and baking them.
The children explored the Plants We Can Feel:
They children experienced the real life setting of a garden and picked up fallen leaves to learn more about their textures. The children used colour pencils to render the texture of different leaves by using the leaves they picked up as stencils. And categorised the different leaves based on how they look or feel, and labelled them accordingly.
The children took a vote on which topic they would like to look further into in Phase 2.
The children voted on their favourite Focus topic:
Plants We Can See - 2 votes
Plants We Can Eat - 8 votes
Plants We Can Feel - 1 vote
The children then unanimously voted on finding out how to grow our own Plants that we can eat.
