The K2 Children had a discussion about our trip to Woodlands Care Home. Teachers and children planned on the activities together. Some parents had also volunteered to join us for this visit!
Upon reaching the Home, the K2 children were greeted warmly by the elderly. As it was the children’s first time visiting an Eldercare Home, they were a little shy. However after a few rounds of singing and playing ice-breaker games, the children were more at ease.
Children were split into small groups as they worked with the elderly in creating a Friendship Themed Art work. During the process, children were observed to assist the elderly in tracing their hands and sharing art materials with the elderly. Children were very patient with the elderly as they worked together. The elderly could be seen to be genuinely happy to be with the children.
After children sang a goodbye song they hugged the elderly and promised to come back soon. We were given a tour of the Day Care premises and children were excited to see how the ‘environment’ and ‘time-table schedule’ was almost similar to that of ours back at school.
Back at school we reflected on the experience and children had alot of questions about their experiences.
