My First Skool @ Jurong West 11 had a virtual launch last 17 June 2020. K1 children participated from the centre and some from their own homes. Throught the virtual launch, the parents were able to watch their children do different activities live.
Before we started the activities, we orient the parents on what SSDB about, what our project is about and the events and activities that lies ahead.
With the current pandemic we are facing, we decided to dedicate our SSDB project to our seniors and grands. We have partnered with St. Andrew’s Nursing Home and All Saints Home.
We then introduced our project through a short skit by the K1 children.
In the skit, VOSI became very sick and required the K1 children to complete missions to earn three stars and save VOSI.
The children who participated at home were given the SSDB Launch Kit to do the activities together with the children in the centre.
For Mission 1: Grandma and Grandpa Figures, the children created a representation of grandparents with the use of paper cups, coloured materials, googly eyes and other craft materials.
For Mission 2: Wish Upon a Star, the children drew or wrote their wishes for the grands using the SSDB stars.
For Mission 3: First Aid Relay, the children used a baton to pass the first aid bags from one person to another, promoting social distancing.
The children completed all the mission and were able to save VOSI!
The launch ended with a celebration. The children all danced and sang along the Corona Virus Shoo Shoo song.
