Upcycling is to take an item that was no longer used and turn it into something that is now useful. The environment benefits of upcycling is huge, aside from minimising the volume of discarded materials and waste being sent to landfill each year, it also reduces the need for production using new or raw materials which means a reduction in air pollution, water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and often a conservation of global resources.
Here we have children choosing recyclable materials from our class recycling corner. The children will be bringing home these recyclable materials to create a kaleidoscope with their parents. This helps to bring awareness to their family on how they can use recyclable materials to create something useful and fun.
