This year we are embarking on the “Start Small Dream Big” project under the theme “Together, Let’s Save the Earth: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” This initiative focuses on educating children about waste management and the importance of environmental conservation.
To start our project we organised a parade around the neighbourhood. Children from K1 and K2 classes were encouraged to hold a placard and chant words like “say no to plastic” or “let’s save the Earth”.
After the neighbourhood parade, children from N2 to K2 assembled in the classroom. We had a discussion about the purpose of our project. The children listened attentively, with some answering questions and others expressing interest in learning more about our project.
The children were educated on recycling and its positive impact on the environment, understanding that recycling plastics and other harmful materials can contribute to saving the Earth. Various recycled items like plastic bottles, egg cartons, and fruit nets are gathered by our centre. The children actively participated by utilising the community’s recycling bins to deposit the collected materials.
Children in N1 utilised plastic bottles, filling them with water to nourish their plants. They also crafted shakers from empty Yakult bottles.
Children in N2 used toilet roll cores to create binoculars. They decorated them and used them to observe nature during outdoor learning activity.
Children in K1 expressed their affection for Earth by creating a poster with messages like “I love Earth,” “let’s save the Earth,” and “I will protect my planet.”
The K2 children engaged in an outdoor cleanup activity within the neighbourhood. They diligently collected various harmful elements such as plastics, beverage bottles, and cigarette butts that pose a threat to the environment.
Through our project, the children discovered the importance of caring for our planet to ensure its preservation for future generations. Even small hands with big hearts can make a significant difference in saving the Earth.
