Tinkering & Dismantling - Repurposing E-Waste

As we continue in our exploration on E-waste, the children were introduced to tinkering and dismantling, centered around discarded electronic waste. We embarked on a journey to understand the process of using tools to dismantle and extract resources from these discarded electronic devices. With a sense of curiosity and excitement, the children delved into dismantling various electronic items, such as old computers, radios, and electronic toys. They learned how to safely use tools like screwdrivers, pliers, and wire cutters to disassemble the devices, uncovering a world of wires, circuits, and components within.

As they explored the inner workings of these electronic devices, the children discovered valuable resources and materials that could be repurposed. Through hands-on exploration, they learned about different components like resistors, capacitors, and LEDs. With some guidance, the children explored creative ways to upcycle these components, envisioning new possibilities for their reuse.

With their newfound knowledge and imagination, the children brainstormed ideas and worked collaboratively to transform the salvaged electronic parts into something new and functional. They became inventors and creators in the process. This process of upcycling electronic waste not only nurtured their creativity but also fostered an understanding of sustainable practices and environmental consciousness.

Through this tinkering and dismantling project, the children not only gained practical skills in using tools and understanding electronic devices, but they also developed a sense of empowerment and ownership over their creations. They learned the importance of repurposing and reducing waste and discovered that even discarded electronic waste holds potential for new and innovative creations. This hands-on experience sparked their curiosity, nurtured their problem-solving abilities, and instilled a sense of environmental responsibility that will stay with them long after the project’s completion.
