The Simplest Act of Caring is Heroic

The theme of our SSDB Project this year is “The Simplest Act of Caring is Heroic” which focuses on the importance of caring for our families, friends and the world around us!

For a start, parents were encouraged to plant seeds of vegetables at home in order to gain the experience and idea of what plants need to grow well, healthy and benefiting the surroundings. Parents and children also illustrated their reflections from these experiences for the children to share with friends and teachers in school.

Following that, children were guided to relate the needs of plants (to grow) to the essential family values. We utilized the learning resources provided from “Families For Life” to mark the four key family values: (1) Love (2) Care & Concern (3) Commitment (4) Respect, where children, educators and parents were engaged in different kinds of hands-on activities while learning about these core family values:

• Planting with “Gardening with Edibles” packs

• Reflect on what plants need in order to grow through creative drawing and illustrations

• Exploring the four Family Values and relating them to the needs of plants:

Planting (Growing and caring for plants at school)

1. Going for an excursion to Singapore Botanic Gardens 

2. Making Family Photo Frames

3. Making “Love and Appreciation Cards”to parents

4. Playing games with family members
