‘Singapore Local Food is the best!’ This year we focused on staying connected on the different local foods in Singapore. We also showed appreciation to the local food heroes, who are tirelessly making delicious foods for everyone despite the current situation and restrictions. The children explored different local foods of different races. They learnt the importance of conserving the rich food culture in Singapore. They enjoyed eating varieties of foods such as Chinese, Malay, and Indian foods.
Our supportive parents participated in a parent engagement sharing. Parents made a dish with their children. Three parents of different races shared on how to make these local foods through Zoom meeting.
Our children’s health and safety is our top priority, so we chose not to visit the hawker centre vendors and cleaners due to COVID-19 restrictions. Nevertheless, the children and parents were still encouraged to support local food vendors in a safer way such as ordering contactless food online.
Through this project, the children acknowledged the importance of our local food vendors.
They became aware that we all have roles and responsibilities on conserving our unique food diversity!
