Our project this year focuses on reusing and creating awareness to use lesser plastic in our everyday lives. The children became “Plastic Warriors” in the centre and worked on upcycling with plastic to create something new such as holders, planters and more! These items made are useful and practical for us!
SSDB Launch cum Earth Day: 22 April 2021
During the launch, as part of Earth day and saving electricity, the children had their hi-tea in the dark! We did not on the lights and the children watched a video on the environmental issues such as global warming, plastic pollution, deforestation and more. They then sorted out different recyclables and placed it in the recycling bin made by both K1 and K2 classes. Children then shared about how they can help the earth and our country to be a clean and green city. They designed and wrote down their pledge on their own SSDB star.
Plastic pollution
One of the topics children showed more interest in was on plastic pollution. We worked with Preschool Market to collect more plastic recyclables! Children created a flower holder using plastic bottles and plastic yoghurt cup. They presented it to their Mummies for Mother’s Day!
Terrarium making using plastic cups
Children also worked with small plastic cups of different shapes to make their terrarium for Father’s Day!
Children showed more curiosity and wanting to use more plastic recyclables! When we see plastics around our school, they will be reminded to upcycle it for their plastic installation project! Children from the toddlers to K2 classes put in a lot of effort for this project! We even got parents to create something from home too using plastic!
We are still working on and finishing our last few pieces of plastic to make lanterns for the upcoming Mooncake Festival!
All of these plastic installation projects will be sold to parents during our Charity bazaar and the money collected will be donated to Bright Horizons Fund!
Good Job Plastic Warriors!
