In May, the young learners at M.Y World Preschool @ Canberra Eastlink eagerly began their Start Small, Dream Big initiative. To kick off this remarkable journey, we encouraged the K1 children to express their creativity by designing a vibrant banner. Meanwhile, the K2 children enjoyed a story titled “Keeping My Promises” by Li Woon, which provided examples of how they can show kindness and care to their grandparents.
We are delighted to celebrate our third year of collaboration with All Saints Home Elderly. The children visited the senior residents during the festive month of Hari Raya, where children were warmly welcomed and supported by the residents during their performances.
During the visit, the children crafted ketupats with them using recyclable materials such as plastic bottle caps and cardboard. They eagerly helped the senior residents assemble the plastic bottle caps in the correct sequence. Additionally, the children played games like Jenga and ball games to interact with the senior residents.
Through this meaningful partnership, we strive to instil in our children the essential values of respect, empathy, and compassion for the older generation. By engaging in these intergenerational activities, we hope to nurture a sense of community and mutual understanding between the young and the senior generations.
