In M.Y World @ Hougang, we believe in integrating Sustainability in the classroom. These sustainable practices help children develop positive lifelong attitudes and values towards saving the environment.
In line with our SSDB’s theme on “Our Family, Our Community,” the children & parents from M.Y World@ Hougang have come together to create meaningful hand-made gifts using recycled materials for the healthcare heroes in National Neuroscience Institute.
During this project, Our N2, K1 and K2 Children learnt all about Sustainability & Saving The Earth by implementing the 3Rs; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Along with their parents, they started out by sending in clean recycled glass bottles to the centre over a period of time. The children upcycled the glass bottles by turning them into beautiful flower vases. First of all, they used old food colouring to create coloured paper and cut them into stripes before folding them into flowers and pasting them on old popsicle sticks. Then, they completed the final product by placing the colourful handmade flowers into the glass bottles filled with plasticine. The children even wrote “Thank You” notes before securing them on the glass bottles with lovely ribbons. The children were so proud of their masterpieces. We hope that the healthcare heroes will be excited to receive the gifts made with love.
